Vintage Porn: Postcards, Photos & Magazines

With the invention of photography in the 1800s, vintage erotica was quite suddenly - and immediately - opened up to the masses, and some of the earliest photographic images are erotic - even pornographic - in nature. As the 19th Century progressed into the 20th, entrepreneurs began mass-producing erotic postcards, usually sold by mail order, before branching out into printed magazines, which could be produced cheaply, distributed widely, and, so long as an "artistic" viewpoint was pretended at, sold legally.  From the 1940s, the character of printed vintage erotica became more erotic and more explicit, until by the middle 1970s nothing was any longer left to the imagination. The 40s also saw the beginning of Camera Clubs, where a model was hired to pose for "amateur photographers", who sometimes even had film in their cameras.
