About Peter Fendi
Austrian court painter, portraitist and genre painter, engraver, and lithographer, Fendi studied under Fischer, Maurer, and Lampi. In his youth Fendi was employed as a draughtsman recording the Imperial collection of antiquities and medals. In 1836 he was elected a member of the Vienna Academy of Fine Art. Almost all of his work is privately owned.
Fendi's erotic watercolours, originally created for a wealthy patron, were almost totally unknown to the general public until a set was published as lithographs, in an edition of 600, in Leipzig in 1910.
